I am Michelle De Aizpurua, and I am a new librarian.
I completed my graduate diploma in Information and Knowledge Management at Monash University in 2014, having received a high distinction average. After working in high school libraries for a year, I started in the role of Librarian at Monash University’s Law Library, where I have been able to utilise my bachelor’s degrees in Law and Behavioural Science. I am also a volunteer content officer for the International Librarians Network. I am passionate about teaching research skills, and instilling a life-long love of reading in young adults. I am especially interested in innovative information and digital literacy pedagogies such as gamification and the use of new technologies.
In my personal life, I am a mega geek for retro videogames, all things pop culture and comics, and costumes! I also make (hilarious) cartoons, particularly punny ones for my wordpress art blog. (I’m reading a book about mazes, I got lost in it) 😛
Having recently started my career, and learning so much in such a short time, I hope making this blog can achieve many things. Not only can I collate all my thoughts and lessons learnt, but hopefully I can also help anyone thinking about getting into the field, or just starting out. I want to share my knowledge and experiences (and questions!) with you all, including those who are more experienced in the field. I hope those more seasoned librarians will enjoy reading about a new librarian’s journey, and contribute some of their lessons learnt too.
